Yesterday, Jan 23, 2011 at around 5pm, I filled up my tank with Regular gasoline priced at 1.139 cents per liter. An hour later, I realized from the printed receipt that I got charged $1.269/liter instead.

To check it out, at 6:30pm, I went back to the same pump and repeated the fillup operation making sure to press REGULAR button, which showed 1.139. As soon as I started filling up, however, the price immediately switched to $1.269.

My question is twofold:

1) Did I actually get Premium gasoline?

2) Whether or not I did, should I not have been refunded the difference by the gas station, and not by Esso itself?

The cashier was rude, insisted that I deal directly with Imperial Oil, and told me to get out of the way as other people were in line.

I do agree with the cashier that the type of questions and concerns you had were not appropriate for that venue. It is not the cashier's job to discuss that with you... that is the sort of thing you make a phone call about, after you leave.
